Gouripur (Mymensingh): National Road Safety Day 2018 was observed on Monday in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district amid different programmes including human chains and discussions.
The day was observed with the slogan “Will obey law; will make roads safe”
On this occasion, the government and different organisations held different programmes in different areas of this upazila.
Students of Gouripur Pilot Girls High School formed a human chain, followed by a rally, in front of this school in the town to observe the day.
The human chain was addressed by UNO Farhana Karim as chief guest, AC (Land) Abul Munsur, OC of Gouripur Thana Abdullah Al Mamun, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Saiful Islam, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Alamgir Hossain, Head Teacher Md. Anamul Haq Sarkar, Former Deputy Comander of Gouripur Muktijudda Sangsad Abdur Rahim and among others spoke during the human chain.
It is celebrated to increase the awareness among people about Road Safety Day and it is also said many people died every day due to unskilled drivers, overloading, lack of adequate training, violation of traffic rules, lack of proper implementation of laws and social unawareness.
On this Day some bike riders were cased to be fined for not use of helmets led by UNO Farhana Karim
