The celebration of Mujib Year officially termed as 'Mujib Borsho', birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day was observed in a befitting manner on Tuesday in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district.

Apart from the ruling Awami League (AL) Gouripur upazila unit and its front and associated bodies, different political, socio-cultural and educational organisations chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Day, which is also the National Children Day, with due respect and in festive mood.

The Father of the Nation was assassinated along with most of his family members on the fateful night on August 15, 1975 when he was only 55 years old.

Later, a Mujib Portrait was opened at Gouripur Upazila Parishad. Freedom Fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP formally inaugurated the Mujib Portrait through unveiling a plaque and cutting a red tape as the chief guest.

UNO of this upazila Sejuti Dhar as well officers of various public offices, representatives of public, heads of schools, colleges, madrasas, and representatives of socio cultural organizations paid wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu respectively.

Afterwards, a discussion and prize-giving ceremony was held at Upazila Public Hall with Sejuti Dhar, UNO of  Gouripur upazila  in the chair while  Freedom Fighter  Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP was present as chief guest and upazila chairman Md. Mufazzal Hossain Khan other prominent persons were present and addressed the audience.

Besides, from morning to evening different associate organizations of the party, including Awami Jubo League, Mohila Awami League, Krishak League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Sramik League and various other socio-cultural bodies also chalked out elaborate programmes marking the day
