Gouripur (Mymensingh): The holy Eid-ul-fitr, the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal and the first largest religious festival of the Muslim Ummah, was celebrated with solemnity across Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district on Monday, May 25, 2020 without any outdoor activities this year to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. Many Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr (charity in the form of food) during Eid-ul-fitr.
The Muslim avoided Eidgah or other open places for congregations and offered prayers at almost mosques in the town of Gouripur and elsewhere following recommended health advice.
Besides, marking the Eid, Freedom Fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP, upazila chairman Md. Mufazzal Hossain Khan, AL leaders like Principal A.K.M Abdur Rafique, Krishibid Doctor Shameul Alam Liton, Naznin Alam; Adv. Abul Kalam Azad, Ali Ahmed Khan Pathhan Salvee, GM Babul (VP Babul) greeted party men as well as the Muslims across Gouripur upazila.
Other leaders of different political parties and socio cultural organisations in their messages greeted the people. Political leaders said, “We should stay away from shaking hands, hugging and should maintain social distancing. We should follow government’s guidelines.”
However, on Sunday morning about one hundred Muslims who are followers to the Sureshuri Mazar at Shariatpur, celebrated their Eid under the leadership of Pir Syed Shahnur Abtab Parvez Nuri at village Bahadurpur of this upazila.
