Gouripur (Mymensingh): General secretary of Gouripur upazila unit Swechchhasebak League of Mymensingh, Masudur Rahman Shuvro, was hacked to death and two others injured by unidentified miscreants in Madhyabazar( Pan Mahal) of Gouripur municipal town around 10:30 pm on Saturday (October 18). Masudur Rahman lived in Kalipur of Gouripur municipal town.
The miscreants attacked them, including Shubro with sharp weapons indiscriminately and fled away the scene
When the locals informed the police station, the police went to the spot and sent Shuvo to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment. He died while undergoing treatment there
According to police and locals, Masudur Rahman was having tea with white associates at a tea shop in Pan Mahal of Sadar upazila. At that time, 8-10 terrorists came with two CNGs led by BNP leader UP chairman Riyadh and attacked him. At that time, the miscreants hacked Shuvro at random and seriously injured him. He was later taken to Mymensingh Medical College in critical condition and doctors declared him dead.
Mymensingh Medical Emergency Medical Officer. Ashesh Kumar Roy said he was brought to the emergency room in critical condition. When he was sent to the ward, the doctor declared him dead.
Gouripur Police officer-in-charge (OC) Borhan Uddin said police were trying to arrest those involved in the killing. Police have arrested four people, including the UP chairman, in connection with the hacking to death of Mymensingh’s Gouripur Upazila Swechchhasebak League general secretary Masudur Rahman Shuvro.
Meanwhile, activists and relatives allege that he was assassinated under the leadership of BNP leader Riyadh with the help of party opponents as he declared his candidature in the Shuvro Gauripur municipality election
Officer-in-charge of Gouripur Police Station along with Additional Superintendent of Police of Gouripur Circle visited the spot. Tensions were high in the Gouripur municipal town over the incident. Additional police were deployed to calm the situation. All shops and markets remained closed. Some houses set on fire by agitated people from the rally on Sunday noon.
