Gouripur (Mymensingh): The holy Eid-ul-fitr, the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal and the first largest religious festival of the Muslim Ummah, was celebrated with solemnity across Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district on Friday, May 14, 2021 without any outdoor activities this year to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. Many Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr (charity in the form of food) during Eid-ul-fitr
The Muslim avoided Eidgah or other open places for congregations and offered prayers at almost mosques in the town of Gouripur and elsewhere following recommended health advice.
However, on Thursday morning about three hundred Muslims who are followers to the Sureshuri Mazar at Shariatpur, celebrated their Eid under the leadership of Pir Syed Shahnur Abtab Parvez Nuri at village Bahadurpur of this upazila.
