Corey Anderson smashed 10 sixes in an unbeaten 94 to help win. Anderson came to the rescue after the hosts had been reduced to 41-3 in the seventh over, adding 124 with Kane Williamson for the fourth wicket to set up New Zealand's total of 194-4.
Bangladesh started well in reply and reached 89-2 after 10 overs but could only muster a score of 167-6 in their 20 overs.
Openers Soumya Sarkar and Shakib Al Hasan scored 42 and 41 respectively for the touring side, who will next play two Test matches in New Zealand starting on Thursday.
Bangladesh were 82-1 in the ninth over after the start provided by Tamim Iqbal (24) and Sarkar, but the introduction of New Zealand legspinner Ish Sodhi (2-22) and further pace off the ball, checked their progress.
With the hosts put into bat first, Rubel Hossain (3-31) dismissed James Neesham for 15 and Colin Munro - centurion in the second T20I - for a duck in the same over, before Mosaddek Hossain struck with his first ball to send back Tom Bruce (5).
